[Girl]              Valdrek loved someone who couldn’t love him and made the world pay. Martin loves people who cannot stay and finds them again. Kittanu set the trap to see if he knows the difference.

[Hal]              He has walked into worse places with more power and come out changed. He walks into this one with almost none and comes out the same man. That is harder, and Kittanu knows it.

Physical Description

In this form, both of Martin’s eyes that he exchanged with some of his wives are visible. The left sits in skin darkened almost black around the socket and glows a faint blue.

People with secrets often find his gaze unsettling before they understand why. His right eye is golden-green with a reptilian slit pupil and an unusual stillness.

He stands a little over six feet tall with a lean, athletic build that falls outside normal human proportions. His silver-white hair carries a metallic sheen and is usually tied back loosely, allowing strands to fall across his face. His ears extend beyond those of most elves, and faint light can sometimes be seen beneath his pale skin in low illumination.

His relaxed posture often causes strangers to underestimate him until he moves. Within the Vale, his draconic nature remains sealed and never fully emerges.

History

The Kittanu Fragment is Martin Gray with most of his power restricted. Kittanu, the Machine fragment governing the Barovian Vale, created this form so he could operate within the domain without overwhelming it.

Roughly two-thirds of his capabilities remain sealed, leaving an experienced field operative with strong instincts, capable combat skills, and unusual resistance to fear and influence.

His time-based abilities, higher Rig functions, and many of his most powerful traits remain inaccessible because Kittanu judged they would remove the challenge the domain was meant to provide.

The seal is not permanent. If circumstances become severe enough, she can release portions of it and restore selected abilities.

The purpose is not to see whether Martin can win with overwhelming power, but how he performs when success must be earned.

Special Actions, Powers, and Vulnerability Notes

The Anchor. True Faith holds malign beings a yard back while he believes; Unfazeable blocks all fear and intimidation; Counter Charm lets a bonded ally reroll a failed fear effect for 3 FP.

Reading the Room. Empathy gives +3 to Detect Lies, Fortune-Telling, and Psychology; Body Language and Danger Sense run with it; the Machine rolls Danger Sense against ambush.

He reads the feeling of a room and senses an ambush before it lands.

Moving in the Dark. Shadow Path takes one minute to prepare, then moves him through shadow along the lattice; Stealth runs at 27 with his gear. Shadow Path cannot leave Machine range here.

Most managed domains cannot stop a man who walks through their own shadows, and they almost always have shadows.

The Pack Multiplier. One bonded companion switches on Hunter’s Luck, Pattern Mapping (+2 damage per die, crit on 10, ignores 10 DR), and Counter Charm.

This form was built for a hunter and a pack, not a lone fighter.

Faith Fire, the Last Argument. Faith Fire Breath, 2d burn and corrosion, 1 FP per die; King’s Presence forces a Will roll that can make a target stand down for a turn.

The axe and bow handle most of his fights at this power level. Faith Fire is reserved for healing enemies that shrug off other attacks. He holds it back until needed.

Vulnerability The Hoard. The way to Martin runs through his bonded people; pressure on them hurts him more than any wound, and Berserk (12-) fires when a loved one is harmed.

To force his hand, an enemy goes around him and threatens the people he swore to protect.
